Home Improvements

The yard furniture has been replaced with 8 Adirondack chairs to look out at the bay and enjoy the added native plants and magnificent plumerias. New storage boxes have been added to the back of the house. The short one holds the cushions. Note the swordfish in the downstairs family room has been restored to its original splendor. Please be careful when approaching the marvelous beast.

Renter's Guide

Please note this is a NO SMOKING PROPERTY

Check-in time is typically 4:00 p.m. – Check-out time is typically 10:00 a.m.

Avalon is susceptible to draught and has a limited water supply. Please be water wise, take short showers and reuse towels during your stay. The water to the yard has been intentionally turned off.

Be aware there are lots of stairs on the property and be sure to utilize the hand rails.

Outdoors:
·         There is a white recycle receptacle outside the back door to the kitchen. Please use orange bags (in kitchen pantry) for recycling.
·         There are two trash cans in the lower yard, please put your regular trash in these during your stay.
·         In the downstairs room where the TV is located there is a stack of chaise pads for the redwood benches and chair cushions for the outdoor chairs. There are canvas covers on the benches that you can remove and stash in the laundry area.
·         Please use the white towels in the basket in the laundry room on the chaise pads to protect the cushions from sunscreen and saltwater.
·         It would be great if you could take the cushions in at night if the weather turns really damp.
·         There is a clothesline at the back of the house and a drying rack in the utility room.
·         There is a propane BBQ in the upper yard. An extra propane tanks is at the back of the house. Please be sure all food is removed before closing it up for the night.
·         The arched side door out to the yard off of the entryway has a very low, very wide ceiling passage - DUCK for longer than you think necessary!
·         Deer are a problem in the yard - we hope that they won't join you and continue to eat our plants.

Downstairs:
·         The front closet has some beach gear. Please feel free to borrow these items.
·         The Ratskeller is a large gathering room – great place for cocktails and conversations. Be careful of the swinging entry doors – they are heavy and swing back quickly. There are lots of games in the cabinet under the window for your enjoyment.
·         There is a room with a big screen TV and the stereo equipment.
·         There is a utility room with a washer and dryer behind the Ratskeller. Use sparingly if at all.

Upstairs:
·         The white bathroom has towels in the cupboards; each of the other bathrooms have towels located under the sink and there are towels hanging on the towel bars in the shower room.
·         Please put things in the kitchen back where you find them for ease of the cleaning crew and for the sake of the next guests.
·         Please help yourselves to any food items in the refrigerator and in the cupboards.
·         Spices are in the pull out cupboard on the left-hand side of the stove.
·         The refrigerator makes ice and has a water dispenser inside on the left hand side. Please be sure to close the refrigerator tightly by closing the left door first.
·         There are twelve blue plastic water glasses and clear plastic wine glasses on the shelves in the dining room. There are a couple of China markers in the kitchen to write names or initials on the glasses.
·         The buffet in the dining room, located under the vintage Catalina pictures, has paper napkins, paper plates, party decorations, placemats, and extra table cloths. Tea bags are in a wooden box in the dining room.
·         There are dishes in the kitchen cupboards and on the shelves in the dining room. There are also staples in the pantry in the kitchen, please help yourselves. You will most likely need to buy more paper goods, including toilet paper. Please leave bathrooms with at least one roll of TP when you head home.
·         The house has internet and basic cable TV.  You may either plug your device in or use wireless. The modem is located in the little pass-through room between the dining room and living room. Please be careful using the door on the living room side as it is very close to the TV. There are handwritten instructions for operating the TV, DVD, and Chromecast under the TV upstairs.
·         There are extra sheets and towels (including beach towels) in the linen closet that is located in the hallway next to the white bathroom.

General:
·         Please be WATER WISE
·         The windows all have latches. Please be sure that the latches on the casement (crank style) windows are UP in the "open" position before trying to open the windows.
·         The attic is locked as it holds our family members' personal belongings.
·         Trash and recycling days are TUESDAY and FRIDAY. Please be sure to have your sorted trash in the rolling barrels on the sidewalk against the retaining wall on the night before trash days.

Around Town:
·         There is a new large Von’s downtown that has everything you could need.
·         There are lots of good restaurants in town.
·         Seafood for cooking at the house can be purchased on the pier or at the Lobster Trap.
·         Descanso Beach is pretty and a nice walk from town beyond the Casino. It has a new facility with upgraded amenities. They have food and beverage service and beach equipment rentals.
·         There are shuttles and taxis available to take you to any destinations you choose to visit.
·         There is a 9-hole golf course up the canyon and a very fun miniature golf course in town.
·         The Casino has a gorgeous movie theater that shows current movies and is definitely worth seeing!
·         The Casino Dive Park and Lover’s Cove are wonderful for snorkeling. The cement stairs are VERY slippery at the Casino and some of the beaches, so please hold on tightly to the railing all the way down to the water.
·         There is a new high end spa that is located very close to our home.
·         There is a zip line, ropes course and many other adventures through the Island Company.

Check-out:
·         Please leave damp towels on towel bars or over shower doors rather than on the floors.
·         Please close the windows and lock the front and back doors when you depart.
·         If you have time to strip the beds that would be great – just leave the sheets on the floor in the room.
·         Please make sure the televisions, stereo, lights, stove, and oven are all turned off. Please make sure the refrigerator is fully closed.
·         Please let us know if anything gets broken, misplaced, or is in need of repair so that we can take care of it before the next guests arrive!

I know this is very long but hopefully it will be helpful to you throughout your stay at the house. Enjoy!

Home Improvements

There is now a 55" high definition flat big screen in the entertainment room downstairs and a new high definition LCD set upstairs. Last year we added a sectional sofa and two small dressers downstairs and some sheer curtains upstairs. The Ratskeller flooring has been repaired as well. We hope our guests will appreciate the improvements.
